Ingredients

Apple mixture
  • 3 apples peeled, cored, and sliced into wedges
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract
Serving
  • 1 vanilla ice cream for serving
  • 1 caramel sauce for serving

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Method

Coat the apples
  1. Toss the apple wedges with melted unsalted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until evenly coated and glossy.
Air-fry
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
  2. Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer in the basket.
  3. Air-fry at 375°F for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway, until caramelized, browned at the edges, and tender when pierced.
  4. Work in batches if needed so the apples stay in a single layer and caramelize instead of steaming.
Serve
  1. Serve the air fryer apples warm over vanilla ice cream with a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Notes

For the best caramelization, keep the apple pieces in a true single layer and avoid overcrowding (batch if needed). Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 3 days; reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes to re-crisp the edges. Freezing is not recommended for best texture. For a lighter option, use butter spray or swap for coconut oil and serve with frozen yogurt instead of ice cream if desired.
