Ingredients

canned cut green beans
  • 4 can (14.5 oz) cut green beans drained
bacon
  • 8 slice bacon chopped
onion
  • 0.5 small onion diced
brown sugar butter sauce
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.25 cup butter melted
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan
  • 1 cast iron skillet
  • 1 Dutch oven

Method

Preheat and cook bacon-onion
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Cook chopped bacon and diced onion in a skillet for 8 minutes until bacon is mostly crisp; do not drain the drippings.
Assemble and bake
  1. Place drained green beans in a 9x13-inch baking dish and top with bacon, onion, and the skillet drippings.
  2. Whisk packed brown sugar, melted butter, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper, then pour the mixture over the beans.
  3. Cover with foil and bake 35-40 minutes at 350F, stirring once, until the sauce is glossy.
Finish and serve
  1. Stir the beans again and serve warm.

Notes

For the glossiest sauce, bake until you see a thick, shiny coating pooling around the beans, then stir once mid-bake as written. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container for up to 3 days; rewarm in a baking dish at 350F until hot. Freeze up to 2 months (sauce may thicken—stir while reheating). For a lower-sodium option, use low-sodium soy sauce and reduce added pepper slightly if desired.
